Julia has
been blowing and sculpting glass since
2001. She studied art at Oregon State University and is currently finishing
her BFA at Southern Illinois University. She is
also an owner of The Missoula School of Hot Glass. In addition to blowing and teaching glass,
Julia is an avid painter, musician and mountain
biker.

CAMEO VASES........These vases have two or more
layers of color which are then cut to reveal the under
layers. My favorite part of this technique is working on
the engraving wheels to cut away the glass, in which
I then add patterns and texture.

STUMP WARE SERIES.......A week of waiting for
trees to be cut down on the property where I reside
inspired me to create these pieces. The decision to
cut was reveresed thanks to Freddie Waddell.

DNA PRESERVATION
.

ORIGIN SERIES.........These cameo style pieces
are decorated with hominid skulls, (human-like ancestors), and
tree roots. This work is about the attachemnt of
humans with eachother and the natural world in all times and
all places.

ELEMENTAL NUDES.......I hand sculpt my nudes
from a solid mass of glass without any added bits.
I want the nudes to appear to come from a solid material,
like earth, or rock. I use colors that come from
earth, fire, and water and always put movement into the
form to give a sense of the molten material that
is used.
